Roccolo Grassi “La Broia” Soave is a beautiful golden nectar colored fine wine featuring nice aromatic complexity, powerful, enjoyable freshness and minerality. Mineral notes, white flowers, peach are perceived on the nose. In the mouth Soave La Broia is fresh, tasty, and white flowers and fruit are present yet again. The wine is refreshingly bright, with solidifying notes of fresh white daisies, lemon zest, and perfectly ripe peaches. Soave is a great alternative for rich-style Chardonnay drinkers. This wine pairs well with white fish with cream sauces.
This DOCG 100% Garganega hails from it’s estates 2 hectare La Broia vineyard, where the vines are planted south-eastern at 100 meters above sea level. The soils are alluvial and rich with limestone. The grapes are grown in the south-east facing. The Guyot trained vines are planted to a density of 7,000 vines per hectare and yield between 1.2 and 1.5 kg per plant. The super ripe Garganega grapes were picked during the third week of September and dried naturally for five to six months in a humidity and heat controlled area of the winery. The “raisins” were then pressed and very slowly fermented at 15 to 16°C in French 225 liter oak barrels over a period of 60 to 90 days. It was then matured for 18 months in French oak barrels, of which 20% were new and 80% second passage, before a further 24 months bottle ageing.
Roccolo Grassi is a small winery located in the eastern hills of Valpolicella towards Soave. The property consists of three vineyards and vines ranging from 6-45 years old. Marco and Francesca Sartoli, brother and sister, took over from their father in 1986 and began the process of transforming the winery and vineyards. They began to farm organically and to focus on quality rather than quantity. All of their wines are single vineyard, which means that each wine receives the best grapes from each vineyard rather using the best grapes for only the best wine and then declassifying down. The result is a collection of world class wines distinguished by their pure elegance.
Annual production is 38,000 bottles per year.
