Description
In the glass this Barolo shows a brilliant mid-ruby color with a cherry rim. Aromas of fresh red berries, iris, sage and tobacco plume from the glass. The palate is full-bodied on this extra dry wine. It is rich with dense, mouthcoating tannins. Sour cherry, truffle, tar, roses, raspberry, dark bitter chocolate, and spice with orange zest and has an invigorating acidity that provides a long runway for the concentrated fruit flavors. All this leads into a powerful, toasted aged oak elegant finish. Enjoy with roasted game hen and pecorino.
Barolo is a delicious red wine that comes from the town of the same name in the Northern Italian region of Piedmont. Réva’s Barolo is a blend of vineyards from Monforte d’Alba, Novello, Serralunga d’Alba and Grinzane Cavour. Literally meaning ‘Foot of the Mountain,’ Piedmont (or Piemonte in Italian) sits in the shadow of the snow-capped Alps and is one of Italy’s most beautiful regions. Barolo must be 100% Nebbiolo, a pernickety grape supposedly named after Piedmont’s famous fog (or ‘nebbia’ in Italian). Nebbiolo requires particular soils and hillside sites above that fog to fully ripen. Like Pinot Noir, Nebbiolo offers a true reflection of where it’s grown, meaning you could spend a lifetime exploring the different expressions of the wine made in beautiful Barolo. The 100% Nebbiolo wine is fermented with native yeasts in steel tanks, then aged for 24 months in oak barrels. Thanks to high acidity and firm tannins, it can age a long time.
In 2011, Miro Lekes, an enthusiast and collector of Langhe wines, founded Réva, a winery and wine resort in the hills of Monforte d’Alba. The estate consists of 23 hectares of vineyards, all farmed organically, in Monforte d’Alba, Barolo, Novello, Serralunga d’Alba, Grinzane Cavour, and, most recently, in Roddino (Alta Langa). Their Barolo wines display both the traditional philosophy of blending from more than one site, as well as highlighting the great Crus of the region, including the famed vineyards Cannubi, Ravera, and Lazzarito. Réva grow all four biotypes of Nebbiolo (Lampia, Michet, Rose and Picotener) along with Barbera, Dolcetto, and a fascinating old plot of Sauvignon Gris.
