Description
Catarratto in Sicily used to be used as bulk wine and not considered a wine of quality. No more! Under the hands of Castellucci Miano’s master winemaker, Tonino Guzzo, this Catarratto exhibits exceptional quality and can rival any of the worlds coveted white wines. Great for white wine enthusiasts. For the strictly red wine drinkers out there, this wine might change your mind…
Medium plus bodied with ultra crisp acidity. The texture is smooth and slippery on the palate. The perfumed bouqet can be smelled from far away. Citrus, apple, pair, cantaloupe, banana, sea salt. Clean finish that makes your mouth water. Kind of addictive actually…
Catarratto is an indigenous grape, unique to Sicily. You cannot find this white grape anywhere else in the world! It has been cultivated in Sicily for thousands of years. By drinking “Miano,” you will be participating in an authentic Sicilian experience. The quality is there. It’s exactly what you would expect from any world-class wine.
The Catarratto vineyards are located on the slopes of the Madonie mountains at around 700-900 meters above sea level. The average age of the vines is 20 years and they've been grown using espalier and sapling methods. The yield per hectare is 80-100 qls. The Madonie mountain soil is mixed sand and clay, with alkyl reactions due to the prominence of limestone. Harvested in October and vinified using white wine method, with the fermentation temperature kept stable at 16°C. There is no malolactic fermentation. The secondary fermentation is kept in stainless steel tanks for three months and then aged in bottle for two additional months before release to market. Tipology DOC Valledolmo – Contea di Sclafani – Sicilia.
